Best-of-decade UK decentralized energy projects shortlisted

August 8, 2017 - The UK’s Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) has announced its shortlist for this year’s annual project awards To celebrate the ADE’s 50th year and the tenth year of the awards, this year’s shortlist focuses on the best projects of the past decade. The 53 shortlisted projects, organizations and initiatives will vie to win in categories including industrial, commercial, public-sector and homes-and-communities project; integrated energy; innovation and customer engagement – all over a ten-year span. The carbon-capture dream is dying

August 4, 2017 - European utilities Uniper and Engie in June announced they were walking away from a Dutch CCS project  known as ROAD (Rotterdam Opslag en Afvang Demonstratieproject or Rotterdam Capture and Storage Demonstration Project). ROAD is the last proposal standing for a large-scale coal or gas power CCS project in Europe. Its demise followed cancellation of CCS funding in Britain, ending prospects for a European commercial-scale demonstration power plant. Read more...

 
Ofgem confirms National Grid to create separate electricity system operator

August 3, 2017 - The UK’s National Grid will create a new company to separately operate its electricity system by April 2019. Ofgem confirmed the plans to set up a separate electricity system operator (ESO), which has a central role in planning and operating the power system. The regulator adds: “The role and the form of the ESO needs to adapt to keep pace with a system that is going through a process of change.” Read more...
