World’s young people ‘could face $535tn climate bill’

July 26, 2017 - The financial burden for young people could total $535 trillion (£410tn) if action to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions is delayed. That’s according to a new study published in Earth System Dynamics, a journal of the European Geosciences Union, which suggests continued high fossil fuel emissions will lead to a “massive, expensive clean-up problem” for young people. Flemish community energy incentive in the works

July 25, 2017 - Belgium’s Flanders region could soon see an incentive introduced to support community solar and wind power projects. Bart Tommelein, the Flemish energy minister, told local newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen on Saturday that he aims to discuss such a measure with Flemish and Belgian government colleagues. Floating turbines for Hywind Scotland offshore wind farm in transit

July 24, 2017 - Five floating turbines for the Hywind offshore wind farm this week began their journey from Stord, Norway, to Buchan Deep, 25 km east of Peterhead in Scotland, according to Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, a co-owner of the project. The 6-MW turbines, which are placed on top of ballasted steel cylinders, were assembled outside Stord this summer and now are being individually towed to Scottish waters, the company said.  Read more...
